Waking Up Content

This morning was one of those morning where you wake up and things just feel right. You want to sleep more, but the baby is crying, so you pull yourself out of bed. But once you're up you feel quite awake. You make breakfast for the baby, pick up the kitchen and the few toys and things you didn't put away before you went to bed, so now you have a clean house. You turn on some good music. You look out the window at the such-a-pale-blue-sky-it's-almost-white, and you have a rush of feelings that give you a sense of gratitude to just be looking out the window at the morning. I watch cars drive by. Some stop for coffee at the coffee shop below our apartment. An ungendered person runs by wearing hunter orange gloves and a big scarf tied around their face (how do they breathe while running with that thing on?) A sweet looking old man toddles towards his car after meeting someone for breakfast at the little family diner a few storefronts down. Life happens, but it feels good. You feel good. I feel good. Happy. Content. I'm waking up content.

What I'm Loving Right Now

"Open Season" by High Highs

You know when you have one of those songs that you just keep playing on repeat, and it just sounds like how you are feelings. Kind of like it's your personal soundtrack for the day or the week? Well this is mine. There is just a relaxed and very mellow feel to this song, yet it's contemplative, a mixture of emotions. I originally heard this song on the movie "Pitch Perfect" (one of my favorite movies). It is played in the scene when Beca is DJing for the radion station over her Spring break. Anyways, this is my current obsession. Hope to bring you more soon.

As always...

Peace,

Kate

Previously On...Keeping Up With the Kardashians

There is one thing that my boyfriend really can't stand (okay, well maybe more than one) and that is the fact that I watch and enjoy Keeping Up With the Kardashians. I recently started watching the show on Netflix and then began to tune into E! to see current episodes. I think it is safe to say it falls under the heading of trashy T.V., but (like most trashy reality shows) it's super addicting.

Andy hates that I watch it because he seems to think I want to be like the Kardashians or live their lifestyle. Newsflash: I have no desire to be a Kardashian or have such a lifestyle. I watch the show because it's a release. It is mind-numbing and therefore fantastic to watch on a study break or late at night when you don't want to think about what's happening. You can just watch.

Despite the fact that I don't want their lifestyle, I find it fascinating because it is so far from my own. Anything that is different or I would go so far as to say polar opposite from the life and world you know is bound to make you curious. I think that is probably one of the reasons why I like the show so much. Their life is so far removed from my own that I want to observe how the other half lives like an anthropologist studying a foreign culture.

Don't worry, Andy. I promise not to wear fake eyelashes, too much mascara, or start saying "Bible" when I am telling the truth. I won't spend absurd amounts of money on clothes, cars, remote-controlled helicopters, or vacations. I am still me. I just like trashy T.V. Is that so wrong?

What I'm Loving Right Now:

"Perth" by Bon Iver

Here's another song that gets stuck in my head quite often and is currently distracting me from finishing Wuthering Heights for my senior seminar course. Anyways, the whole self-titled album is a great one. Perfect for this cooler weather that we've been experiencing. For whatever reason, the overall tone of this album is an autumnal or wintry one for me. In this video my favorite part is about 2:56 when the horns come back in. The emotion in this one, and really, all of Bon Iver's work is raw and powerful. Beauteous!

Pathetic.

So, here I am thinking I can start a blog and will be dedicated and dutiful. I thought I was going to post everyday or most days. It has been 4 days since my last post. Pathetic. You know, the sad thing is that I have thought about the blog and things/topics I'd like to write about but whenever I come up with those ideas I'm either changing a dirty diaper, dropping off to sleep, bouncing a fussy baby, or making dinner. Basically, nowhere near my computer. Then I say, "Okay, I'll just write a post once Alex (my son) is down, and I have a quiet moment." Unforunately, I have recently gotten caught up in the wonderful legal drama by the name of Suits! For anyone who hasn't seen it, my boyfriend described it as Psych crossed with a legal drama full of beautiful people. And I have to say that he is quite right. Anyways, thanks to my new found obession with Suits, my nights have been consumed with catching up to the new episodes airing on TV on Thursdays. As you can see, I have awesome reasons for not posting. But, despite all these awesome reasons, I really do want to try and do better, post more, write more. So I may not be quite up to the task of a post per day but I'd like to try and do at least every other day. Think I can? We'll have to see. You're lucky you're even getting this post. I took a break from watching one of the most thought-provoking, intriguing shows on TV: Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Ohhhhh boy. I crack myself up.
